Kosta Browne was founded in the late nineties by Dan Kosta and Michael Browne and has always focused on Sonoma Coast and Russian River Valley Pinot Noir. The winery has changed hands several times. Most recently Kosta Browne was purchased by Duckhorn Wine Company. The waiting list for the Appellation wines is 18 months long and for the coveted 4 Barrel Pinot Noir there is a 12 year waiting list.
Nestled in the hills southwest of Sebastopol and Planted in 1995, the vineyard is situated just a few miles from the Pacific Ocean on a steep, eastward-sloping hillside.
Ruby red in color. 14.5% ABV. Pretty nose of red fruits, citrus, cloves and flowers. Medium body with perfect acidity. Rich, lush and earthy. Cherry, cranberry, blood orange, pomegranate and soil on the palate. Exceptional length on the finish. This was first Thorn Ridge bottled by KB but the vineyard had long been a source for their Sonoma Coast Appellation wine. Absolutely stunning. Best over the next 2-3 years.
My rating: 94 points.
The 2023 version of this wine will be released to the mailing list early this year.
