Arista Winery was founded in 2002 by Al and Janis McWilliams. From the beginning the McWilliams have firmly believed that the finest examples of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay are produced in small lots. This belief has always led to an emphasis on quality over quantity and a determination to discover and develop unique vineyard sites that reflect the distinct characteristics of the Russian River Valley. In 2012 the McWilliams’ sons, Mark and Ben, took over the family business and now run the day-to-day operations. Matt Courtney is the Winemaker at Arista.
Ferrington Vineyard in the Anderson Valley was originally planted in the 1970’s by Dr. Ferrington, a Santa Rosa Dermatologist. The vineyard is now owned by Kurt Schoeneman.
Crimson in color. 14.7% ABV. Heady nose of red fruits, baking spices, forest floor and flowers. Medium to full bodied with perfect acidity. Big, dark and savory with great balance. Black cherry, plums, nutmeg and earth on the palate. Exceptional length on the finish. Classy Pinot Noir from an esteemed vineyard that is aging brilliantly. Best over the next 2-3 years.
My rating: 94 points.
