2019 Black Kite Pinot Noir Gap’s Crown Vineyard – Bottle Notes

Black Kite Cellars, a family-run winery, specializing in block-designated Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Founded by Donald and Maureen Green in 2003, Black Kite is named for the beautiful but endangered Black Shouldered Kite that is native to the Anderson Valley. Jeff Gaffner of Saxon Brown is the consulting winemaker.

Acquired by Bill Price in late 2012, the 406-acre Gap’s Crown Vineyard is one of the most iconic vineyards of the Sonoma Coast. Gap’s Crown is situated near the town of Cotati at an elevation of 300 to 800 feet, where it overlooks the Sangiacomo Vineyard just to the west.

Crimson in color. 14.5% ABV. Riveting nose of red fruits, cloves, cola and forest floor. Medium body with perfect acidity. Bursting with rich, lush fruits. Impeccably balanced. Black cherry, strawberry, cranberry and baking spices on the palate. Exceptional length on the finish. This is right in my wheelhouse and the bottle disappeared quickly. Best over the next 3-4 years.

My rating: 94 points.

The wines are available via the mailing list and the Black Kite web site.
