2004 Herb Lamb Cabernet Sauvignon – Bottle Notes

In 1987 Jennifer and Herb Lamb purchased a little over 7 acres of hillside property on the eastern hillsides of St. Helena just below Howell Mountain. Starting in 1991 the fruit was sold to wineries like Karl Lawrence and Colgin. In 1997, with winemaker Mike Trujillo at the helm, they released the first vintage of Herb Lamb Cabernet Sauvignon.

Dark crimson in color. 14.2% ABV. Breathtaking nose of black and blue fruits, molten licorice, scorched earth and Whitman Sampler box. Lush and full bodied with silky tannins. Well balanced and exceedingly approachable. Currants, cassis liqueur, blueberries and tobacco on the palate. The finish is exceptionally long and seamless. Glorious Cabernet Sauvignon from an impeccable vineyard that has aged brilliantly. Best over the next 1-2 years.

My rating: 94 points.

In 2014 Herb Lamb passed away and last year Jennifer retired from the wine business. Herb Lamb Vineyards is now being leased to Thomas Rivers-Brown. It is assuring to me to know that the vineyard is in good hands.
