Kosta Browne was founded in the late nineties by Dan Kosta and Michael Browne and has always focused on Sonoma Coast and Russian River Valley Pinot Noir. The winery has changed hands several times. Most recently Kosta Browne was purchased by Duckhorn Wine Company.
Sourced from a variety of special vineyards including Gap’s Crown, Treehouse, Bootlegger’s Hill, Keefer Ranch, Giusti Ranch, Zio Tony, and Moonshine.
Ruby red in color. 14.1% ABV. Pretty nose of red fruits, cloves, baking spices and cola. Medium body with exquisite acidity. Decidedly rich and earthy. Cherry, cranberry, truffles and soil on the palate. Tremendous length on the finish. Charming Pinot Noir from a problematic vintage. Best over the next several years.
My rating: 91 points.
Kosta Browne has changed their release schedule but I think the 2024 Sonoma Coast will be released next Spring at a price near $72.
I get the impression the Appellation wines are readily available and that there is only a waiting list for some of the more coveted wines like 4 Barrel. Kosta Browne also welcomes visitors by appointment to their facility in the Sonoma Valley.
