Bedrock Wine Co. was founded by Morgan Twain-Peterson in 2007 and focuses on small production wines from many of California’ s most treasured and historic vineyards. The lineup of wines at Bedrock is expanding rapidly, but I think the best of the best are the ancient vineyard Zinfandels, Morgan is clearly passionate about.
The tiny Oakville Farmhouse, planted in the 1930s, is the oldest remaining vineyard in the appellation. Wedged within an ocean of tightly spaced Cabernet plantings, the diverse vineyard is a remnant of an older, and perhaps more interesting, Napa Valley. The vineyard is planted to an array of varieties including Negrette, Mondeuse, Zinfandel, Petite Sirah, Carignan, Colombard, Chenin Blanc, Semillon, Malvasia Bianca and more.
Crimson in color. 14.5% ABV. Mixed blacks from the oldest vines still existing in Oakville. Brooding nose of red and black fruits, mint and white pepper. Medium body with medium acidity. Rich, approachable and made in a claret style. Black cherry, blackberry, plums and pepper on the palate. The finish is long and supple. Unique wine with an old school flair. Best over the next 3-5 years.
My rating: 92 points.
