2005 Herb Lamb Cabernet Sauvignon – Bottle Notes

In 1987 Jennifer and Herb Lamb purchased a little over 7 acres of hillside property on the eastern hillsides of St. Helena just below Howell Mountain. Starting in 1991 the fruit was sold to wineries like Karl Lawrence and Colgin. In 1997, with winemaker Mike Trujillo at the helm, they released the first vintage of Herb Lamb Cabernet Sauvignon.

Bright crimson in color. 14.4% ABV. Sublime nose of black and blue fruits, molten licorice, violets and Whitman Sampler box. Full bodied, silky and concentrated. Impeccable balance. Blackberry, blueberry, cassis liqueur and chocolate on the palate. Exceptional length on the finish with well integrated tannins. Tremendous Cabernet Sauvignon from one of Napa’s iconic vineyards. Best over the next 2-3 years.

My rating: 95 points.

In 2014 Herb Lamb passed away and last year Jennifer retired from the wine business. Herb Lamb Vineyards is now being leased to Thomas Rivers-Brown. It is assuring to me to know that the vineyard is in good hands.
