2018 No Girls Double Lucky #8 – Bottle Notes

No Girls Wines is a partnership between famed Cayuse vigneron Christophe Baron and longtime friend and Cayuse general manager, Trevor Dorland. The fruit comes from the Cayuse La Paciencia vineyard, which means patience—appropriate as the project was ten years in the making. The vines are tightly spaced and planted on an angle, giving No Girls a profile all its own. Karen Gasparotti is the “Vigneron” at No Girls.

The name No Girls comes from a mid-19th century building Christophe purchased. Just past the main entrance, at the top of a flight of stairs, the words “no girls” were painted on the wall. The decades old sign was a symbol that this house of ill repute had been shut down. The wine label is an actual photograph.

Double Lucky was created to be a more accessible entry point to the brand’s high-end portfolio. The “Double Lucky” name leans into the “gambling” and “luck” themes often associated with historic downtown districts and the unpredictable nature of winemaking.

Crimson in color. 14.2% ABV. A blend of Grenache, Syrah and Tempranillo. Savory nose of red fruits, smoked meats and olive brine. Medium body with medium acidity. Rich and plush. Cherry, olive tapenade, blood and gamey meats on the palate. The finish is long and supple. Everything you expect from a Rocks District wine. Best over the next 2-4 years.

My rating: 92 points.

The 2022 was released to the mailing list a few weeks ago.

The Christophe Baron portfolio, known as Bionic Wines, includes Cayuse, Horsepower , No Girls, Hors Categorie and Champagne Christophe Baron. I am not sure what is next on the horizon for Christophe but I look forward to being a part of it.
