Black Kite Cellars, a family-run winery, specializing in block-designated Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Founded by Donald and Maureen Green in 2003, Black Kite is named for the beautiful but endangered Black Shouldered Kite that is native to the Anderson Valley. Jeff Gaffner of Saxon Brown is the consulting winemaker.
Kite’s Rest is a blend from distinct blocks of the Estate Vineyard.
Crimson in color. 14.6% ABV. Savory nose of dark fruits, plums, cloves and roasted herbs. Medium to full bodied with perfect acidity. Rich and opulent. Black cherry, boysenberry, herbs and earth on the palate. Exceptional length on the finish. Just a tremendous Anderson Valley Pinot Noir that is aging gracefully. Best over the next 2-4 years.
My rating: 94 points.
The wines are available via the mailing list and the Black Kite web site.
