2017 Kosta Browne Pinot Noir Russian River Valley – Bottle Notes

Kosta Browne was founded in the late nineties by Dan Kosta and Michael Browne and has always focused on Sonoma Coast and Russian River Valley Pinot Noir. The winery has changed hands several times and is currently part of the Duckhorn Wine Company portfolio which was recently acquired by a private equity firm. The waiting list for the Appellation wines is 18 months long and for the coveted 4 Barrel Pinot Noir there is a 12 year waiting list.

This version of the Russian River Valley is a blend from many vineyards including including Keefer, Giusti, Treehouse and Bootlegger’s Hill.

Ruby red in color. 14.3% ABV. Charming nose of red fruits, baking spices, earth and flowers. Medium body with exquisite acidity. Rich and plush with dark, earthy fruits. Black cherry, strawberry, black tea and cloves on the palate. The finish is long and supple. Really good and a triumph for the vintage but not quite on par with my favorite vintages of this appellation wine. Best over the next 1-2 years.

My rating: 92 points.

The 2023 Kosta Browne Appellation wines will be released to the mailing next Spring.
