Kosta Browne was founded in the late nineties by Dan Kosta and Michael Browne and has always focused on Sonoma Coast and Russian River Valley Pinot Noir. The winery has changed hands several times and is currently part of the Duckhorn Wine Company portfolio which was recently acquired by a private equity firm. The waiting list for the Appellation wines is 18 months long and for the coveted 4 Barrel Pinot Noir there is a 12 year waiting list.
This version of the Russian River Valley is a blend from many vineyards including including Keefer, Giusti, Treehouse and Silver Eagle.
Crimson in color. 14.3% ABV. Charming nose of red fruits, cloves, sarsaparilla and flowers. Medium body with perfect acidity. Big and brooding with earthy, dark fruits. Cherry, strawberry, baking spices and earth on the palate. Tremendous length on the finish. This bottle disappeared in the blink of an eye. Glad I have a few more in the cellar. Really well made Pinot Noir that will age well. Best over the next 2-4 years.
My rating: 94 points.
The 2023 Kosta Browne Appellation wines will be released to the mailing next Spring.
