2018 Ferren Pinot Noir Sonoma Coast – Bottle Notes

Winemaker Matt Courtney founded Ferren Wines in 2013 with longtime friend David Wherritt after an eight-year apprenticeship with Helen Turley at Marcassin Vineyard on the Sonoma Coast. Ferren specializes in Sonoma Coast Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. Matt is also the winemaker at Arista.

Crimson in color. 13.5% ABV. Pretty nose of red fruits, rose petals and forest floor. Medium body with exquisite acidity. Tremendous structure and an appealing minerality set this wine apart from most Sonoma Coast Pinots. Cherry, cranberry, baking spices and minerals on the palate. Exceptional length on the finish. Unique, well made and without question a wine that will age well. Best over the next 5-7 years.

My rating: 93 points.

The 2021 version of this wine will be released this Fall and should cost right around $70.

I previously wrote about Ferren in Three New Mailers to Consider. I’ve been on the mailing list for several vintages and look forward to following Ferren in the years to come.
