Bottle Notes, Syrah

2021 Delmore Syrah Bassi Vineyard – Bottle Notes

Delmore was founded by Darren Delmore in 2017. Darren had a background making wine at noted wineries including Hirsch, Goldeneye and Two Hands and managed sales at Tablas Creek. The winery specializes in cool climate Syrahs and Pinots.

Bassi Vineyard is located on the hillsides of Avila Valley, 1 mile from Avila Beach on the San Luis Obispo coast.

Bright crimson in color. 13.4% ABV. Savory nose of black fruits, salt and seaweed. Medium body with medium acidity. Unlike most CA Syrahs I am accustomed to. Somewhat akin to a Northern Rhone. Blueberry, coffee, saline and a wealth of minerals on the palate. Nice length on the finish. The definition of cool climate Syrah. Best over the next 5-7 years.

My rating: 91 points.

Delmore makes less than 600 cases a season in Tin City Paso Robles. You can buy wine on his site and find bottles at key retailers and restaurants in California. The 2021 Bassi Vineyard Syrah is $50.

This bottle was given to me by a close friend to settle a yearly bet on the records of our favorite baseball teams. Better luck this year Tony!
