Bottle Notes, Syrah

2011 Bedrock Syrah North Coast – Bottle Notes

Bedrock Wine Co. was founded by Morgan Twain-Peterson in 2007 and focuses on small production wines from many of California’ s most treasured and historic vineyards. The lineup of wines at Bedrock is expanding rapidly, but I think the best of the best are the ancient vineyard Zinfandels, Morgan is clearly passionate about.

I’ve been told by many that I need to age my Bedrock wines for longer so this Bottle Note is for you. Truth be told this is a bottle I gave to my dad many years ago and it has been sitting in his wine refrigerator for at least 6 years. I pulled it out of his cellar on a recent visit to Phoenix.

Crimson in color. 14% ABV. Savory nose of black fruits, bacon fat, flowers and pepper. Medium body with medium acidity. Fresh, supple and easy to drink. Black cherry, olive brine, barbecued meats and minerals on the palate. Nice length on the finish. Probably better a few years ago but still lots to like here.

My rating: 90 points.

The mailing list at Bedrock is highly recommended. Exceptional wines, fair prices and great customer service. Put your name on the waiting list.
