Sosie Wines was founded by Scott MacFiggen and Regina Bustamante. The concept is serious yet playful wines representing the heart of France and the soul of Sonoma. The winery has a tasting room in the Sonoma Square and makes an array of red, white and sparkling wines.
Sosie Wines recently sent me samples of some of their new releases.
2017 Sosie Pinot Noir Spring Hill Vineyard – Crimson in color. 13.5% ABV. Intriguing nose of red fruits, black tea and freshly tilled soil. Medium body with medium acidity. Less about opulent fruit and more about earth and minerals. Cherry, cranberry, nutmeg and earth on the palate. Tremendous length on the finish. Really unique and well crafted. This should age well. Best over the next 3-5 years. $45 at the winery and retail. My rating: 92 points.
2017 Sosie Red Blend Cavedale Vineyard – Purple in color. 14.5% ABV. 45% Cabernet Sauvigon, 45% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc. Pretty nose of black fruits, plums and pepper. Full bodied, fruit forward and very approachable. Lush and silky. Black cherry, blueberry, cassis and earth on the palate. Medium length on the finish with round tannins. Delicious and so very easy to drink. Best over the next 3-5 years. $45 at the winery and retail. My rating: 91 points.
This was my first chance to try Sosie Wines and it is hard to not be impressed. I look forward to following the winery in the years to come.
