2020 Bodega El Nido Jumilla Clio – Bottle Notes

Bodegas El Nido is a 100-acre estate in the Valle de La Aragona, in the Jumilla region of Spain. It was founded in 2002 and is a collaboration between Australian winemaker Chris Ringland and the Gil Family. Grapes grown are Monastrell and Cabernet Sauvignon. Two wines are produced, the Clio, which is 70% Monastrell and 30% Cabernet Sauvignon, and the flagship wine, El Nido, which is 70% Cabernet Sauvignon and 30% Monastrell.

Dark red in color. 16% ABV. Sublime nose of black and blue fruits, licorice, eucalyptus and violets. Full bodied with mouth watering acidity. Remarkably well balanced. Dark, sweet and heady. Black cherry, blueberry, kirsch liqueur and roasted herbs on the palate. The finish is long and supple. In a great place but this will drink well for years to come. I’ll open another bottle in 2028.

My rating: 93 points.

Clio is a still fairly priced even though $50 seems to be the new norm. The 2023 is available at retail. I’m stocking up and you should as well.
