Founded in 2002 by Al and Janis McWilliams in Sonoma’s Russian River Valley, Arista Winery specialized in small-lot, terroir-driven Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Known for high-quality, cold-climate wines, the winery was managed by sons Mark and Ben McWilliams from 2012, with Matt Courtney serving as winemaker. The winery is unfortunately concluding its operations with a final 2024 vintage release in 2026.
Crimson in color. 14.3% ABV. Charming nose of red fruits, cloves, cola and herbs. Medium to full bodied with strong acidity. Packed with dark, earthy fruits. Black cherry, cranberry, strawberry and earth on the palate. The finish is long and smooth. Well made appellation Pinot Noir that is aging gracefully. Best over the next 2-3 years.
My rating: 92 points.
It is certainly a sign of the times but one can’t help be a little disappointed that Arista is shutting their doors later this year. Fortunately I have many more bottles that I can relish over the years to come.
