2006 Fontodi Chianti Classico Riserva Vigna del Sorbo – Bottle Notes

The Manetti family, which has run the Fontodi winery since 1968, is a true champion of sangiovese. The 200 acre estate is situated in the “golden basin” known as Conca d’Ora, south of Panzano in Chianti Classico. Their flagship called Flaccianello has been produced since 1981 and is from the estates very best vineyard. Amongst other wines, Fontodi also produces a Chianti Classico Riserva known as Vigna Del Sorbo.

Crimson in color. 14.5% ABV. Tremendous nose of dark fruits, leather, wet asphalt and flowers. Medium body with robust acidity. Rustic fruits and coarse tannins in spades. Dried cherries, tobacco leaves, iron and minerals on the palate. Exceptional length on the finish. Delicious Sangiovese from a great vintage. This wine will continue to drink well for another 4-6 years.

My rating: 94 points.

Pricing for this wine has drifted up in recent years and the 2020 vintage will set you back right about $100. The Chianti Classico is a good alternative at $45 or so per bottle.
