2017 Bodegas Alto Moncayo Garnacha Campo de Borja – Bottle Notes

Bodegas Alto Moncayo is a joint venture of Jorge Ordonez, Bodegas Borsao and others, in conjunction with winemaker Chris Ringland. The youngest vines of Alto Moncayo are 35 years old and the oldest vineyards are over 90 years old. Their focus is exlusively on Garnacha.

Purple in color. 16% ABV. Sublime nose of dark fruits, molten licorice and Whitman Sampler Box. Full bodied with perfect acidity and notable balance. Very rich and silky. Raspberry, blueberry, kirsch liqueur and roasted herbs on the palate. The finish is long and supple. I was expecting a big wine but this was surprisingly restrained and elegant. Ready to go and best over the next several years.

My rating: 92 points.

This wine is widely available at $45-$50 per bottle. I know you can find it at your local Total Wine. The 2021 is the current release. I’m a buyer.
