SEAWOLF Wines is a partnership between two winemakers dedicated to natural winemaking and hands-on organic farming. Living life in the vineyard and on the sea has spawned SEAWOLF Wines. Founded by Jesse Hall and Emma Kudritzki Hall in 2014 the winery is located at the top of Anderson Valley in the Yorkville Highlands. At their organic dry farmed Estate vineyard in Yorkville, they grow Sauvignon Blanc, Grenache, Mourvedre, Petite Sirah, Primitivo, Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, and Zinfandel.
I had a chance to visit SEAWOLF this last week on a trip to the Anderson Valley. The winery is situated at 2200 feet in the Yorkville Highlands and the views are absolutely breathtaking. While at the winery Jesse poured us the 2023 Rose, 2022 Carbonic Zinfandel, 2023 Pinot Noir Lost Coast and 2021 Zinfandel Red Triangle. The Rose and Carbonic Zinfandel are both delicious, refreshing and made in a lighter style that works so well this time of the year. The Pinot Noir and Zinfandel were stunning. All of these wines are available now on the SEAWOLF website and are highly recommended.
Jesse also sent me home with some samples that will be released in late August.
2022 SEAWOLF Estate Yorkville Highlands Primitivo First Crush – Purple in color. 14.3% ABV. Savory nose of red and black fruits, plums and pepper. Medium body with ample acidity. Lush and fruit forward. Black cherry, blackberry, nectarine and pepper on the palate. The finish is long and spicy. Appealing wine that will fare well with hearty foods. Best over the next 2-3 years. $58 at the winery and retail. My rating: 92 points.
2022 SEAWOLF Estate Yorkville Highlands Grenache Three Graces – Ruby red in color. 13.5% ABV. Pretty nose of red fruits, kirsch, wet asphalt and flowers. Light to medium body with perfect acidity. Soft, supple and approachable. Cherry, cranberry, strawberry and roasted herbs on the palate. Nice length on the finish. Delicious wine made with a sense of elegance and restraint. Best over the next 3-5 years. $58 at the winery and retail. My rating: 93 points.
2021 SEAWOLF Estate Yorkville Highlands Cabernet Sauvignon – Purple in color. 14.1% ABV. The nose features red and black fruits, wet leaves, plums and cedar. Full bodied with notable power and concentration. Currants, cassis, tobacco leaves and graphite on the palate. Tremendous length on the finish with prominent, silky tannins. My first Cabernet Sauvignon from the Yorkville Highlands and the wine did not disappoint. Best over the next 6-8 years. $64 at the winery and retail. My rating: 94 points.
