Zinfandel of the Month is a regular feature on Zinfandel Chronicles. Keep in mind that although the Zinfandel of the Month might be an older bottle, the current vintage will be one you can find at retail or via the mailing list.
The June Zinfandel of the Month is the 2021 Trestle Glen Vineyards Zinfandel Sonoma Valley.
I chose this wine as my Zinfandel of the Month because I am always looking for a new Zinfandel to add to my cellar and it is hard not to be intrigued by the history of the winery itself.
Trestle Glen Vineyards was originally part of BR Cohn Winery, founded in 1984 by longtime Sonoma resident, wine producer, philanthropist, classic car enthusiast and manager of numerous rock n’ roll bands, Bruce Cohn. For almost 20 years, Trestle Glen grapes contributed to BR Cohn’s award-winning small block wines, most famously the Silver Label Cabernet Sauvignon. Following the sale of BR Cohn Winery in 2015, Cohn retained Trestle Glen Vineyards to continue production of his boutique wines. He produced two award-winning vintages of Cabernet Sauvignon before passing ownership of the vineyard to the Wheeler Family in 2020.
Although Trestle Glen Vineyards was founded many years ago, 2021 marks the first vintage managed by the Wheeler family from start to finish. Tom Montgomery if the Winemaker at Trestle Glen.
Crimson in color. 15.8% ABV. From vines planted in 1998. Gorgeous nose of bright red fruits, citrus and baking spices. Medium body with mouth watering acidity. Bursting with juicy, vibrant fruits. The balance is exceptional. Cherry, raspberry liqueur, blood orange and pepper on the palate. The finish is long and spicy. My kind of Zinfandel. Really well made and just a tremendous debut. Best over the next 2-4 years.
My rating: 94 points.
Review based on a sample provided by the winery.
The 2021 Zinfandel is available at the winery for $35. I look forward to following Trestle Glen in the years to come. The winery is currently accepting members for both their wine club and mailing list.
