2019 Convene Pinot Noir Sonoma Coast – Bottle Notes

Convene was founded by Dan Kosta in 2019. Shane Finley is the Winemaker. Dan and Shane previously partnered at AldenAlli and I have followed Dan Kosta since Kosta Browne launched over 20 years ago. Convene specializes in Sonoma Coast and Russian River Valley Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.

Crimson in color. 14.1% ABV. Gorgeous nose of red fruits, cloves and forest floor. Medium body with perfect acidity. At first this presented as somewhat herbaceous but with about an hour of air the fruit became more opulent and lush. Perfectly balanced. Cherry, cranberry, strawberry and earth on the palate. Tremendous length on the finish. My first Convene and very reminiscent of AldenAlli and the Dan Kosta era at KB. Best over the next 3-5 years.

My rating: 93 points.

The 2021 Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir is available on the winery website for $68.

I’ve been on the Convene mailing list since the start and look forward to following the wines in the years to come. I also hope to visit Convene on my next trip to Healdsburg.
