Bottle Notes, Pinot Noir

2019 Aston Pinot Noir Sonoma Coast – Bottle Notes

Aston Estate was founded in 2001 by Fred Schrader, founder of Schrader Cellars, Chuck Sweeney, co-founder of Vine Cliff and Thomas Rivers-Brown. Several years ago TRB bought out the other two founders and became the sole owner. Aston Estate is located near the remote township of Annapolis, approximately five miles from the coast.

I was on the mailing list early on but dropped off at some point. I signed back up after TRB finalized the purchase because he has always been one of my favorite Pinot Noir winemakers.

Ruby red in color. 14.8% ABV. Pretty nose of red fruits, citrus, baking spices and forest floor. Medium body with medium acidity. Well balanced with rich, earthy fruits. Strawberry, cranberry, blood orange and earth on the palate. The finish is long and smooth. Charming Pinot Noir that is easy to drink. Best over the next several years.

My rating: 91 points.

The 2021 vintage was released last year and is still available at the winery for $45.

The winery is still accepting names for their mailing list. Super wines from an incredible vineyard that are fairly priced. Lots to like here.
