2019 Ferren Pinot Noir Sonoma Coast – Bottle Notes

Winemaker Matt Courtney founded Ferren Wines in 2013 with longtime friend David Wherritt after an eight-year apprenticeship with Helen Turley at Marcassin Vineyard on the Sonoma Coast. Ferren specializes in Sonoma Coast Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. Matt is also the winemaker at Arista.

Crimson in color. 13.6% ABV. Beautiful nose of dark fruits, baking spices, sarsaparilla and forest floor. Medium to full bodied with exquisite acidity. Silky, rich and perfectly balanced. Black cherry, black raspberry, cloves and earth on the palate. Tremendous length on the finish. Without question the best Pinot Noir I have had from Ferren. Drink over the next 6-8 years.

My rating: 95 points.

The 2022 version of this wine will be released next Fall and should cost right around $70.

I previously wrote about Ferren in Three New Mailers to Consider. I’ve been on the mailing list for several vintages and look forward to following Ferren in the years to come.
