Bodegas Alto Moncayo is a joint venture of Jorge Ordonez, Bodegas Borsao and others, in conjunction with winemaker Chris Ringland. The youngest vines of Alto Moncayo are 35 years old and the oldest vineyards are over 90 years old. Their focus is exlusively on Garnacha.
Purple in color. 16% ABV. Heady nose of black fruits, anise, Whitman Sampler Box and pepper. Full bodied with mouth watering acidity. Opulent, packed with fruits and notably well balanced. Blackberry, black cherry liqueur, creme de cassis and charred meats on the palate. Exceptional length on the finish. Still just a baby. Best over the next 5-7 years.
My rating: 93 points.
This wine is widely available at $35-$40 per bottle. I know you can find it at your local Total Wine. The 2019 is the current release and I suspect the 2020 will show up soon as well. I’m a buyer.
