2019 Vinoce Cabernet Sauvignon – Bottle Notes

Brian and Lori Nuss founded Vinoce from high above the valley floor on Mt. Veeder in 1996. Over the last three decades, they have developed an intimate knowledge of growing Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc on the rugged, hillside slopes. Vinoce is devoted to creating wines that reflect the true expressions of Mount Veeder with balance, power, and uniqueness. The estate on the northern end of Mt. Veeder is made up of 4 blocks split between Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. Vinoce also produces a Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc.

Purple in color. 14.8% ABV. Super nose of dark fruits, graphite, scorched earth and flowers. Smooth and silky with prominent tannins. Terrific balance. Blackberry, currants, tobacco and earth on the palate. Medium length on the finish. Somewhat approachable with a healthy decant but likely better in 3-5 years.

My rating: 91 points.

$60 at the winery and retail.

This wine was sent to me by Carrie at Napa Valley Wine & Cigar to make good on an annual bet many of us have regarding our favorite MLB teams. I’d say better luck next year Carrie…but you know I wouldn’t mean it. Cheers!
