2016 Kosta Browne Chardonnay One Sixteen – Bottle Notes

Kosta Browne was founded in the late nineties by Dan Kosta and Michael Browne and has always focused on Sonoma Coast and Russian River Valley Pinot Noir. The winery has changed hands several times. Most recently Kosta Browne was purchased by Duckhorn Wine Company. The waiting list for the Appellation wines is 18 months long and for the coveted 4 Barrel Pinot Noir there is a 12 year waiting list.

The One Sixteen Chardonnay is comprised of fruit from seven vineyards centered on the Green Valley neighborhood of the Russian River Valley and the name is a reference to the 116 Highway.

Bright gold in color. 13.8% ABV. Pretty nose of tropical fruits, vanilla bean and lemon oil. Full bodied with mouth watering acidity. Rich and viscous with great mouth feel. Pears, Meyer Lemon and vanilla creme brulee on the palate. Exceptional length on the finish. Decadent Chardonnay that is aging brilliantly. Best over the next 2-3 years.

My rating: 92 points.

The 2021 Russian River Valley will be released next Spring to the mailing list along with the Sonoma Coast and Anderson Valley. The single vineyard wines will be released this Fall.
