2013 Kosta Browne Pinot Noir Russian River Valley – Bottle Notes

Kosta Browne was founded in the late nineties by Dan Kosta and Michael Browne and has always focused on Sonoma Coast and Russian River Valley Pinot Noir. The winery has changed hands several times. Most recently Kosta Browne was purchased by Duckhorn Wine Company. The waiting list for the Appellation wines is 18 months long and for the coveted 4 Barrel Pinot Noir there is a 12 year waiting list.

Sourced from 15 vineyards including Keefer, Koplen and Giusti.

Ruby red in color. 14.4% ABV. Pretty nose of red fruits, cloves and forest floor. Medium body with perfect acidity. At 9 years of age there is less upfront fruit than when I last tried this but the wine is still incredibly appealing. Cherry, cranberry, baking spices and earth on the palate. The finish is long and supple. Gorgeous Pinot Noir that is aging gracefully. Best over the next 1-2 years.

My rating: 94 points.

The 2021 Russian River Valley will be released next Spring to the mailing list along with the Sonoma Coast and Anderson Valley. The single vineyard wines will be released this Fall.
