Zinfandel of the Month – 2019 Andis Wines Old Vine Zinfandel Reserve Di Stasio Vineyard

Zinfandel of the Month is a regular feature on Zinfandel Chronicles. Keep in mind that although the Zinfandel of the Month might be an older bottle, the current vintage will be one you can find at retail or via the mailing list.

The May Zinfandel of the Month is the 2019 Andis Wines Old Vine Reserve Di Stasio Vineyard.

I chose this wine as my Zinfandel of the Month because the attention to detail and pedigree of the vineyard caught my attention.

Andis Wines is a boutique winery established in 2010 and located in the heart of Amador County. Andis wines come from the Estate Vineyard and other acclaimed vineyards in the Sierra Foothills AVA. Wines are made by Mark Fowler and the consulting team led by Philippe Melka and Maayan Koschitzky. All wines are Estate Produced and Bottled.

Di Stastio Vineyard was planted in 1950 in the Shenandoah Valley AVA.

Crimson in color. 15% ABV. Brilliant nose of red fruits, anise and pepper. Medium to full bodied with mouth watering acidity. Concentrated and powerful with notable balance. Cherry, blackberry liqueur, cocoa and pepper on the palate and exceptional length on the finish. There is finesse and power on display here. The acidity and concentration suggest this Zin will age well. Best over the next 4-6 years.

My rating: 94 points.

Review based on a sample provided by the winery.

This wine is available at the winery and retail for $50.

This was my first chance to try a Zinfandel from Andis Wines and I came away impressed. Later next week I will review several more wines from Andis. In the meantime this is certainly a wine worth looking for.

If you have a Zinfandel you would like me to consider for the June Zinfandel of the Month please reach out to me.
