Fattoria di Felsina is an historic estate in the Chianti appellation of Tuscany. In 1966 the estate was purchased by the Poggiali family, and today a second generation of the Poggiali family still run the estate. At the edge of the Chianti Classico and Chianti Colli Senesi denominations, the estate counts 475 hectares, of which 61 are planted with vineyard. Gambero Rosso, Italy’s leading wine journal, has often awarded Felsina’s wines with 3 Bicchieri, the journal’s highest rating.
Ruby red in color. 13.5% ABV. Fantastic nose of red fruits, road tar and eucalyptus. Medium body with super acidity. Light, fresh and approachable. Black cherry, plum, licorice and pepper on the palate. Exceptional length on the finish. Delicious Chianti that was absolutely perfect with a hearty Chicken Parmesan. At the price it is really hard to go wrong here. Best over the next several years.
My rating: 91 points.
There are not many $25 wines in the world that deliver as consistently as Felsina Chianti. One of the few wines that I will still consider buying by the case.
I wrote about Felsina previously in Buying More Italian Wine.
