Giovanni Corino started making his own wines in the 1980’s. Like many of the other winemakers in the area, his family farmed the land and sold the fruit. Giovanni’s son Giuliano runs the estate today. All the vineyards are in La Morra, with Barolo vineyards in Arborina, Giachini and Bricco Manescotto.
Ruby red in color. 14.5% ABV. Sensational nose of red fruits, lavender, road tar and blood. Medium body with perfect acidity. The rusticity is very appealing. Dried cherries, iron, black licorice and blood orange on the palate. Exceptional length on the finish. Glorious Barolo that is just singing at twenty years of age. Best over the next 3-5 years.
My rating: 93 points.
Current vintages can be found for about $75 and are worth searching out.
