2000 Giovanni Corino Barolo Vigneto Arborina – Bottle Notes

Giovanni Corino started making his own wines in the 1980’s. Like many of the other winemakers in the area, his family farmed the land and sold the fruit. Giovanni’s son Giuliano runs the estate today. All the vineyards are in La Morra, with Barolo vineyards in Arborina, Giachini and Bricco Manescotto.

Reddish brown in color. 14.5% ABV. Powerful nose of dark fruits, tar, menthol and flowers. Medium body with medium acidity. Mostly resolved tannins and enough fruit to keep things interesting. Dried cherries, toffee, anise and roasted herbs on the palate. Medium length on the finish. This wine was most certainly more compelling many years ago. Somewhat surprising as the ’01 version of this wine was delightful as recent as last year. Drink up.

My rating: 87 points.

This bottle not withstanding, current vintages can be found for about $75 and are worth searching out.
