Bottle Notes, Syrah

2018 Efeste Syrah Emmy – Bottle Notes

Efeste, pronounced like the letters “F-S-T” strung together, was named after the last names of founders Helen & Dan Ferrelli, Patrick Smith, and Kevin & Angela Taylor. Efeste is located in the Warehouse District of Woodinville, Washington. They also have a cool tasting room in the SoDo District. Mark Fiore is the current winemaker at Efeste.

The 2018 Emmy is 100% Syrah sourced from Ciel Du Cheval Vineyard on Red Mountain.

Purple in color. 14.1% ABV. Savory nose of dark fruits, plums, bacon fat and flowers. Full bodied with strong acidity. Big and concentrated. Black cherry, blackberry, charred meats and olives on the palate. Tremendous length on the finish with prominent tannins. Definitely a candidate for some time in the cellar. Serious Syrah. Best over the next 5-8 years.

My rating: 91 points.

Efeste has one of the best white wine programs in the state of Washington and the red wines are also exceptional. The wines are readily available at retail, via the wine club and at the winery.
