2017 Bedrock Wine Co. Heritage Wine Evangelho Vineyard – Bottle Notes

Bedrock Wine Co. was founded by Morgan Twain-Peterson in 2007 and focuses on small production wines from many of California’ s most treasured and historic vineyards. The lineup of wines at Bedrock is expanding rapidly, but I think the best of the best are the ancient vineyard Zinfandels, Morgan is clearly passionate about.

Evangelho Vineyard is in Contra Costa County, south of the San Joaquin-Sacramento Delta and east of Mount Diablo. The vineyard is planted with a number of different varieties and dates back to the early 1900’s. Sadly, Frank Evangelho recently passed away.

Crimson in color. 14.1% ABV. Zinfandel, Mataro and Carignane. Charming nose of red fruits, roasted herbs and flowers. Medium body with tremendous acidity. Great grip and structure. Well balanced. Raspberry, kirsch, earth and pepper on the palate. The finish is exceptionally long with prominent tannins. The Mataro is the hero here and really makes this wine stand apart from the rest of the Bedrock lineup. This should age well. Best over the next 3-5 years.

My rating: 93 points.

The mailing list at Bedrock is highly recommended. Exceptional wines, fair prices and great customer service. Put your name on the waiting list.
