2007 Outpost Cabernet Sauvignon – Bottle Notes

The 2007 Outpost Cabernet Sauvignon was the winning bottle in the February Installment of Pick My Next Bottle. The wine was decanted for 2 hours and served with a baked tri tip roast.

Outpost Wines was established in 1998 and sits on a pristine piece of land atop Howell Mountain 2200 feet above Napa Valley. Thomas Rivers-Brown has been the winemaker from the start and has gained further acclaim making highly sought after wines for Schrader, Rivers-Marie and many others. Outpost produces Zinfandel, Cabernet Sauvignon and a Right Bank inspired blend called Immigrant. In 2018 AXA Millésimes, the wine division of a French insurance giant, bought Outpost from the Dotzler family.

Dark crimson in color. 14.8% ABV. Stunning nose of blue and black fruits, licorice, leather and graphite. Medium to full bodied with perfect acidity. Plush and concentrated. Well balanced. Blueberry, blackberry liqueur, creme de cassis and earth on the palate. Exceptional length on the finish with incredibly silky tannins. Awesome Cabernet Sauvignon that is aging brilliantly. With mountain fruit and a great vintage I suspect this will age well for years to come. Best over the next 4-6 years.

My rating: 95 points.

The 2018 vintage was recently released to the mailing list.

Outpost wines are only available via the mailing list and sell out quickly. Don’t miss the Zinfandel, Cabernet Sauvignon and Single Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon from True Vineyard. Highly recommended.
