2015 Bedrock Wine Co. Zinfandel Old Vine – Bottle Notes

Bedrock Wine Co. was founded by Morgan Twain-Peterson in 2007 and focuses on small production wines from many of California’ s most treasured and historic vineyards. The lineup of wines at Bedrock is expanding rapidly, but I think the best of the best are the ancient vineyard Zinfandels, Morgan is clearly passionate about.

The 2015 version of Old Vine is 90% Zinfandel and 10% mixed blacks from vineyards that average 80 years in age. The bulk of the fruit was sourced from Bedrock, Nervo and Sodini Ranch Vineyards.

Violet in color. 14.4% ABV. Clearly young on the nose with aromas of black fruits, wild flowers and pepper. Plush and full bodied with tons of acidity. Blackberries, cherry cordial and dark chocolate on the palate. The finish is exceptionally long and spicy. Delicious now, but since I took one for the team, I would suggest waiting a year and then drinking over the next 3-5.

My rating: 92 points.

At $19 or so off the mailing list this wine is one of the very best values in California Zinfandel.

The mailing list at Bedrock is highly recommended. Exceptional wines, fair prices and great customer service. Put your name on the waiting list.
