2010 Bedrock Wine Co. Zinfandel Monte Rosso Vineyard – Bottle Notes

The 2010 Bedrock Wine Co. Zinfandel Monte Rosso Vineyard was the winning bottle in the April installment of Pick My Next Bottle. The wine was decanted for one hour.

Bedrock Wine Co. was founded by Morgan Twain-Peterson in 2007 and focuses on small production wines from many of California’ s most treasured and historic vineyards. The lineup of wines at Bedrock is expanding rapidly, but I think the best of the best are the ancient vineyard Zinfandels, Morgan is clearly passionate about.

Monte Rosso was planted in the 1880’s by Emanuel Goldstein and the original winery is still on the property. Located off of Highway 12 in Sonoma the grapes are being used by Carlisle, Bedrock, Louis Martini and Robert Biale.

Opaque purple in color. 15% ABV. 96% Zinfandel and 4% Alicante Bouschet. Heady aromas of red fruits, coffee beans and molten licorice. Rich and full bodied with medium acidity. Plush on the palate with amazing purity of fruit. Flavors of raspberry compote, blueberry liqueur and spice. Seamless tannins on an exceptionally long finish. The epitome of an iron fist in a velvet glove. Tremendous Zinfandel. Drink over the next 6-8 years.

My rating: 94 points.

The mailing at Bedrock is highly recommended. Exceptional wines, fair prices and great customer service. Put your name on the waiting list.

I blogged about Bedrock recently in The 2015 Zinfandel Chronicles Power Rankings and Monte Rosso Vineyard in The Top 10 Old Vine Zinfandel Vineyards.
