The Manetti family, which has run the Fontodi winery since 1968, is a true champion of sangiovese. The 200 acre estate is situated in the “golden basin” known as Conca d’Ora, south of Panzano in Chianti Classico. Their flagship called Flaccianello has been produced since 1981 and is from the estates very best vineyard. Amongst other wines, Fontodi also produces a Chianti Classico Riserva known as Vigna Del Sorbo.
Dark red in color. 14.5% ABV. Brooding nose of dark fruits, wet asphalt and flowers. Medium body with strong acidity. Dark and chewy. Blackberry, black cherry, roasted herbs and blood on the palate. Exceptional length on the finish with prominent, dusty tannins. Sensational with a lasagna and as always best with a hearty meal. Drink over the next 2-4 years. I’ll check in on another bottle in 2028.
