Founded in 2002 by Al and Janis McWilliams in Sonoma’s Russian River Valley, Arista Winery specialized in small-lot, terroir-driven Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Known for high-quality, cold-climate wines, the winery was managed by sons Mark and Ben McWilliams from 2012, with Matt Courtney serving as winemaker. The winery is unfortunately concluding its operations with a final 2024 vintage release in 2026.
Toboni Vineyards is is a meticulously farmed 15 acre vineyard just off Olivet Lane in the heart of Russian River Valley that produces high-quality fruit from both Dijon and Pommard clones.
Crimson in color. 14.5% ABV. Savory nose of red and black fruits, cloves, Asian spices and flowers. Medium to full bodied with perfect acidity. Packed with lush, savory fruits. Black cherry, pomegranate, roasted herbs and earth on the palate. The finish is long and spicy. Delicious Pinot Noir that has aged gracefully. Best over the next several years.
My rating: 92 points.
It is certainly a sign of the times but one can’t help be a little disappointed that Arista is shutting their doors later this year. Fortunately I have many more bottles that I can relish over the years to come.
