Bruce Patch cut his teeth in the music industry — having once met the Beatles and helped to discover the famous 80’s band, The Cars. Bruce moved to the Russian River Valley in the late 1990’s, and transitioned his sales and marketing background into a successful distribution business representing small independent wineries in Sonoma County. Bruce Patch Wines sources grapes from throughout Sonoma County.
The winery recently sent me their new releases to sample.
2023 Bruce Patch Zinfandel Alexander Valley – Purple in color. 14.9% ABV. Zinfandel with a smattering of Petite Sirah. Gorgeous nose of red fruits, citrus, baking spices and anise. Medium body with exquisite acidity. Light and refreshing with bright, juicy fruits. Cherry, strawberry, nectarine and a touch of pepper on the palate. Exceptional length on the finish. Really charming Zinfandel that is right in my wheelhouse. Best over the next 2-3 years. $40 at the winery. My rating: 94 points.
2023 Bruce Patch The Red Dress Alexander Valley – Purple in color. 14.4% ABV. 60% Cabernet Sauvignon and equal parts Zinfandel and Petite Sirah. Sublime nose of black fruits, cocoa, plums and licorice. Full bodied with medium acidity. Packed with dark fruits. Blackberry, currants, cassis and smoke on the palate. Nice length on the finish. Big wine and the Cabernet Sauvignon takes center stage. Give this some time. Best over the next 6-8 years. $50 at the winery. My rating: 92 points.
Bruce Patch is honing his craft, making wines from up and coming vineyards and selling them at fair prices. Proceed accordingly.
