2020 Bedrock Wine Co. Heritage Wine Evangelho Vineyard – Bottle Notes

Bedrock Wine Co. was founded by Morgan Twain-Peterson in 2007 and focuses on small production wines from many of California’ s most treasured and historic vineyards. The lineup of wines at Bedrock is expanding rapidly, but I think the best of the best are the ancient vineyard Zinfandels, Morgan is clearly passionate about.

Evangelho Vineyard is in Contra Costa County, south of the San Joaquin-Sacramento Delta and east of Mount Diablo. The vineyard is planted with a number of different varieties and dates back to the early 1900’s.

Dark crimson in color. 14.5% ABV. Sublime nose of red and black fruits, licorice, pepper and flowers. Full bodied with mouth watering acidity. Lush and rich with dark, juicy fruits. Black cherry, raspberry liqueur, plums and white pepper on the palate. Tremendous length on the finish. Outstanding and just entering primetime. My favorite Evangelho going back many years. Best over the next 6-8 years.

My rating: 94 points.

The mailing list at Bedrock is highly recommended. Exceptional wines, fair prices and great customer service. Put your name on the waiting list.

  1. I can’t specifically recall the 2020, but I was very impressed with their 2021 Evangelho Heritage and have 2 left cellaring away. 2022 and 2023 were good, but didn’t wow me. Of course I’ll be ordering the 2024 when released.
