2017 Kosta Browne Pinot Noir Sonoma Coast – Bottle Notes

Kosta Browne was founded in the late nineties by Dan Kosta and Michael Browne and has always focused on Sonoma Coast and Russian River Valley Pinot Noir. The winery has changed hands several times. Most recently Kosta Browne was purchased by Duckhorn Wine Company. The waiting list for the Appellation wines is 18 months long and for the coveted 4 Barrel Pinot Noir there is a 12 year waiting list.

Sourced from a variety of special vineyards including Pratt-Sexton, Marshall, Burnside, Watertrough, Kanzler, Gap’s Crown, Thorn Ridge and Freestone.

Crimson in color. 14.2% ABV. Stunning nose of red fruits, cloves, earth and flowers. Medium body with exquisite acidity. Lush, rich fruits in spades. Perfectly balanced. Cherry, strawberry, sarsaparilla and minerals on the palate. Exceptional length on the finish. The best Sonoma Coast I have had in recent memory and every bit as good as the Sonoma Coasts from the previous eras at Kosta Browne. Best over the next 2-3 years.

My rating: 95 points.

The 2023 Kosta Browne Appellation Pinots will be released to the mailing list next Spring.
