Bottle Notes, Pinot Noir

2019 Black Kite Cellars Pinot Noir Jasper Freestone Vineyard – Bottle Notes

Black Kite Cellars, a family-run winery in Anderson Valley, specializes in block-designated Pinot Noir from the Kite’s Rest Vineyard. Founded by Donald and Maureen Green in 2003, Black Kite is named for the beautiful but endangered Black Shouldered Kite that is native to the Anderson Valley. Jeff Gaffner of Saxon Brown is the consulting winemaker.

Jasper Freestone is located outside of the town of Freestone on the Sonoma Coast and was planted in 2015.

Ruby red in color. 14.2% ABF. Rustic nose of red fruits, cloves, earth and flowers. Medium body with perfect acidity. Packed with crunchy, earthy fruits. Black cherry, strawberry, cranberry and minerals on the palate. Exceptional length on the finish. Stunning Pinot Noir that got better as the night went along. Give this a little time. Best over the next 3-5 years.

My rating: 94 points.

The wines are available via the mailing list and the Black Kite web site.
