Bottle Notes, Pinot Noir

2014 Cattleya Pinot Noir Cuvée Number One – Bottle Notes

Cattleya Wines was founded by Bibiana Gonzalez Rave in 2012. Bibiana got her degree in Enology from the University of Bordeaux and worked at Château Haut-Brion and Domaine Stéphane Ogier amongst others before setting up shop in northern California. The winery specializes in Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.

Crimson in color. 14.2% ABV. Sublime nose of red fruits, cloves and flowers. Medium to full bodied with exquisite acidity. Fantastic structure and concentration with no shortage of lush fruits. Black cherry, pomegranate, baking spices and earth on the palate. Tremendous length on the finish. Big, rich, fruit forward Pinot Noir that is immediately appealing. Best over the next several years.

My rating: 92 points.

The 2021 vintage of this wine is available on the winery website for $65.

This was my first opportunity to try a wine from Cattleya and there is much to like here. I look forward to following the winery in the years to come.
