Bottle Notes, Châteauneuf-du-Pape

2006 Isabel Ferrando Châteauneuf-du-Pape Colombis – Bottle Notes

Domaine Isabel Ferrando is owned by Isabel Ferrando who created the estate when she purchased 3.9 hectares of vines. The goal was to create a wine that was distinct from Domaine Saint Prefert, her other Southern Rhone winery. The wine is 100% old vine Grenache made from grapes ranging from 65-100 years of age. 2004 was the debut vintage.

Dark red in color. 15% ABV. Savory nose of dark fruits, roasted herbs and leather. Medium to full bodied with mouth watering acidity. Impressive concentration and power. Impeccable balance. Cassis, kirsch liqueur, herbes de Provence and pepper on the palate. Tremendous length on the finish. Stunning CdP that has the stuffing to drink well for another 3-5 years.

My rating: 95 points.

Isabel Ferrando is making super wines at both Domaine Isabel Ferrando and Saint Prefert. I’m not sure about distribution because neither are easy to come by here in Seattle. That being said, they are worth searching for. Recent vintages have become rather expensive at $125. Back vintages are available at a discount on WineBid.
