Bottle Notes, Châteauneuf-du-Pape

2012 Domaine de Ferrand Châteauneuf-du-Pape – Bottle Notes

Domaine de Ferrand was founded in 1960 by Charles Bravay. The Domaine is located in Orange, which is to the north of Chateauneuf-du-Pape. Philippe Bravay launched bottling their own wine when he took over the domaine from his father in 1995. Since 1997, a large part of the wine produced has been sold under the brand name of Domaine de Ferrand.

The wine is primarily composed of Grenache with small amounts of Syrah, Mourvedre, and Cinsault.

Ruby red in color. 15% ABV. Super nose of red fruits, garrigue and cracked black pepper. Medium body with strong acidity. Well balanced with prominent tannins. Kirsch, plums, charred meat and pepper on the palate. Medium length on the finish. Classic CdP from an overlooked vintage. Best over the next 2-4 years.

My rating: 92 points.

Domaine Ferrand is high quality and fairly priced. Look for the exceptional 2019 for about $60.
