Bottle Notes, Pinot Noir

2018 Cristom Pinot Noir AVA Series, Yamhill-Carlton – Bottle Notes

Cristom Vineyards was founded by Paul and Eileen Gerrie in 1992. Their son Tom became the majority owner in 2012. Cristom Vineyards is located 43 miles from the Pacific Ocean on the 45th parallel and planted on a diverse range of Volcanic soils in the Eola Hills. The winery has focused on growing benchmark Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.

Crimson in color. 14% ABV. Pretty nose of red fruits, baking spices, earth and flowers. Medium body with medium acidity. Dark and brooding with a distinct earthiness. Black cherry, black raspberry, nutmeg and iron on the palate. Nice length on the finish. Delicious and easy to drink but not as good as the Cristom McMinnville AVA Series I opened yesterday. Best over the next several years.

My rating: 90 points.

I purchased this wine for a song on WineBid but I believe it retailed for $35. Cristom is widely available at retail and the winery. I do hope to visit the winery on my next trip to the Willamette Valley.
