Bedrock Wine Co. was founded by Morgan Twain-Peterson in 2007 and focuses on small production wines from many of California’ s most treasured and historic vineyards. The lineup of wines at Bedrock is expanding rapidly, but I think the best of the best are the ancient vineyard Zinfandels, Morgan is clearly passionate about.
Lorenzo’s Heritage comes from Teldeschi Ranch in Dry Creek Valley and was planted between 1900 and 1955. The 2017 is roughly 46% Zinfandel, 35% Petite Sirah and 14% Carignan with the remaining amounts made up of Alicante Bouschet, Cinsault, Peloursin and a few vines of Vaccarese. The vineyard is tended to by John and Caterina Teldeschi.
Crimson in color. 14.6% ABV. Brooding nose of red and black fruits, leather, menthol and pepper. Full bodied with mouth watering acidity. Big and burly with dark fruits in spades. Black cherry, black raspberry, plums, earth and pepper on the palate. Tremendous length on the finish with gritty tannins. One of the top field blends from Dry Creek Valley and there is no question this will age well. Best over the next 5-7 years.
My rating: 93 points.
With the 2020 vintage this wine included enough Zinfandel to be labeled as such and was bottled as Teldeschi Ranch instead of Lorenzo’s Heritage.
The mailing list at Bedrock is highly recommended. Exceptional wines, fair prices and great customer service. Put your name on the waiting list.
