Montevertine is situated in the heart of the Chianti, in the commune of Radda. Sergio Manetti founded Montevertine in 1971. Since Sergio’s passing in 2000, the estate has been run by his son Martino. Le Pergole Torte is the flagship wine of the estate and is named after the vineyards where the fruit is sourced. The artist for the Le Pergole Torte labels was Alberto Manfredi, who has passed.
Ruby red in color. 13% ABV. 100% Sangiovese. Gorgeous nose of red fruits, iron, cigar box and wet leaves. Medium body with perfect acidity. Light, lithe and incredible elegant with a surprising sense of power. Dried cherries, blood, tobacco and spice on the palate. Tremendous length on the finish. Just a great vintage of this wine that has drank well for the last decade. Sadly my last bottle but certainly ready to drink.
My rating: 94 points.
Le Pergole Torte is a world class wine and priced accordingly. You may be able to find the highly acclaimed 2016 version for around $175.
