2006 Pahlmeyer Merlot – Bottle Notes

Pahlmeyer was founded in the mid-1980s when Jayson Pahlmeyer, a Bay Area lawyer, decided he preferred thinking about wine over reading legal briefs. Pahlmeyer produced its debut vintage in 1986. Jennifer Williams is the current winemaker. Wines produced at Pahlmeyer include the flagship Proprietary Red, Merlot, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. In late 2019 Gallo purchased Pahlmeyer.

89% Merlot and 11% Cabernet Sauvignon from Pahlmeyer Estate and Rancho Chimiles vineyards.

Dark crimson in color. 15.2% ABV. Gorgeous nose of red and blue fruits, Whitman Sampler box and violets. Full bodied with ample acidity and notable balance. The wine has a great core of sweet, rich fruit. Cherry, blueberry liqueur, cassis and cocoa on the palate. Exceptional length on the finish. Stunning Merlot that has aged brilliantly. Best over the next 2-4 years.

My rating: 94 points.

The 2018 version of this wine, although pricey, is worth considering at about $90 per bottle.
